James Dewar invented this and never made a penny from it.
He built the vacuum flask in 1892 to hold liquefied gases in his lab, published the design, and declined to patent it on the grounds that it belonged to science. A German glassblower named it Thermos, took it to market, and built a company on it. Dewar sued and lost.
Twelve hours hot, twenty-four cold, in a design its creator gave away.
