Rahu is not a planet. Rahu is a shadow, the point where the moon's path crosses the sun's, and the reason eclipses happen at all. The myth gives him a severed head with no body, swallowing the sun and letting it fall straight back out.
They assigned the eclipse a stone. Cinnamon colored, called Gomed, worn by people who wanted the shadow on their side.
